welcome to our NGO
Poverty as a result of the country's economic challenges has really affected whole families in UMP and this has had a particularly negative effect on young children. As with all socio economic challenges, the impact is widespread and young people are being looked after by grandparents as most have lost their parents through HIV or other illnesses. Some parents have moved to cities to look for work and have left their children in the care of grandparents. Whilst this is not uncommon, the challenge is that it is getting worse and there's no help in sight for most of these young people. Grandparents are hard pressed to provide as well as to see these children through school.

The negative impact of Covid 19 has made these issues that much more urgent as many have lost the means of livelihood because of extended periods of economic inactivity during periods of nationwide lockdown. Fresh produce markets, the basic source of income for most local small scale farmers closed during this period and income was lost as a result. There is no capital for inputs for most.

we need your help
Let’s stop this hunger and fullfill their happiness
SK Uzumba Trust would like to help young children with school fees and other vital necessities so that they can at least have a basic start in life and a better chance to be educated. We believe this to be the most powerful tool for young people to have. Helping 1 child to have an education means 1 less juvenile delinquent in the future. We would like to stop the snowball effect that poverty can have on individuals, families and ultimately the nation.
